100 DAYS OF SCHOOL IN THE LIBRARY
Chapa elementary students participated in a library group challenge on the 100th day of school. The activity was to help them build their cooperative skills. Students were asked to complete the task of constructing the tallest tower possible using 100 red plastic cups without them toppling over.
As the groups completed the task, they had to overcome sabotages. Teachers and participating administrators were expected to knock down the towers which represented obstacles students... would encounter as they continued their education throughout their life.
The groups completed the task very quickly but because of the sabotages, they had to keep trying and trying to complete the task successfully. When students were asked what the hardest part was, their answer was, “The difficult part was not giving up when things got tough or frustrating, we had to keep trying over and over again.”
This was a great fun and engaging learning experience for everyone who was involved. Students learned that no matter how difficult life would get they are expected to never give up, and to continue working as a team to try to always be the best they could be.

Gingerbread Man Comes to
Chapa Elementary
Chapa Elementary welcomed
the Gingerbread man for the holiday season.
Ms. V. Flores, librarian, had the students write letters to the
Gingerbread Man, during their library classes, in which the students invited
him to come see them. In response to their letters we hid many clues around the
campus asking the students to “Run, run, run as fast as they could,” so that
they could catch up to him. The students and teachers went hunting throughout
the whole campus, following the clues left for them to solve. The students and
teachers were all very involved and excited about solving the clues which would
lead them to finding their treasure, the Gingerbread Man. At the end of the
hunt, students enjoyed listening to the story of the Gingerbread Man, taking
pictures and having a little snack with him, while at the same time our
teachers were eagerly trying to figure out who was dressed as our character. This
was a great way to end a busy holiday season, it took a lot of teamwork from
our students, teachers, staff and parent volunteers. It was a wonderful
experience for all who were involved. Thank you to everyone who helped make it
a success!
1st 9 Weeks Celebration
On Friday, October 28,
2016 Chapa Elementary Students were celebrated for meeting their Reading
Renaissance 9 Week goals. Students are expected to read, comprehend and test on
books of their choice. Our goal is to inspire students love to read. To achieve
this we use Reading Renaissance as a guide in helping us gauge how well and
which books students like the most. We truly believe reading will help them
increase their vocabulary, imagination and above all for them to reach magical places
as they read.
During their first nine
week celebration, the students had tons of fun. We had different areas
including: building with Legos, play the piano on bananas using a Makey, Makey, chalk
wall, face painting, create your own goo, computers, augmented reality coloring
and VR glasses areas! By giving the students a choice on what they would like
to experience we know we are not only rewarding our students for their
excellence but we are also exposing them to a world of new technology, science
and art!
Thank you to all
students and staff who participated in making this event a wonderful success!
Roald Dahl is one of the most distinguished and beloved authors in the world. To celebrate his many accomplishments, we decided to celebrate some of his more popular books by having a variety of activities throughout the week of September 13-16, 2016.
Wednesday: the students invented their own chocolate bar. There were no limitations on what they imagined and brought forth their wonderful creations. |
Thursday: was wear your Mr. Twit’s Beard. Students created their own messy beard and wore it proudly throughout the day. |
Friday: To close up the week the students dreamt big and dressed up to show us who they wanted to be when they grew up. |
Overall we had an exciting and
eventful week. We look forward to introducing our students into a world of new
experiences and knowledge!
